Entertainment
The three assumptions made about entertainment in the reading were: 1. it is just for fun, 2. it is merely a reflection of culture, 3. entertainment is a personal choice. Of these assumptions, the only one I completely agree with is entertainment being a personal choice. Entertainment is defined as the action of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment, which as far as I am concerned means that what one person finds entertaining, can be described differently by another. For instance, Taylor Swift is one of the most popular music acts in the nation. For some reason her life and every song she sings brings joy to a large portion of the population, thus Swift's music is their form of entertainment. On the other hand I have the exact opposite opinion about the noise many people describe as entertaining. Personally, I find her particular brand of music to be more closely related to torture than entertainment and thus have to conclude, entertainment is a personal choice. Though I am often (unfortunately) a witness to this music that others call entertainment, it is my personal reaction to it that defines whether or not it is entertainment to me, and the same is true for any other individual.
